April's fool

April's fool is coming tomorrow. Hope nature will not fool us again with another gust of cold spell, winds and heavy rains. Nature seem to have become like us older people. It seems to have it's senior moments forgetting which of the four season is supposed to present us. Are w intelligent human being responsible for the change in nature? Are we pretending to be smarter and more intelligently organized than nature? Every thing in us function together. Without eyes we could not see the seeds to plant. Without ears we could not hear the wind, the rains and thunders. Without our nose we could not smell the difference between good and spoiled. Without mouth we could not eat. Without arms we could not reach and feed ourselves. Without legs we could not go to reap our crops. Without brain we would not have any emotions, feelings and fear of danger. Without heart we could not exist. Without lungs we could not breath to feed oxygen to rest of our organs and muscles. Nature is perfectly co=ordinated to work in synchrony. The father men gets away from nature the more he will suffer for his own self created ills.
As child in the farm we exposed to birth, death, production and growing both morally and spiritually. We loved nature and we knew nature loved us back and gave us faith in the future. It inspired our souls to prayers of thanks to God.

Bye bye dogwood flowers

The Dogwood trees were full of beautiful white flowers waiving in the spring breeze. The sun decided to hide, the winds shook the air and brought in big dark clouds pregnant with water. The clouds unloaded their water burden dropping heavy flows of rain and hail. The ground flooded. Puddles were everywhere. The white Dogwood flowers covered the ground and it looked as snow had fallen again. The white Irises look down at their wet bulbs. Every tree, shrub and flowers seem to wonder with sagging blooms why nature decided to turn it's back on them. Easter will soon be here. We hope God will warm our souls again with the gift of his sun, the joy of children laughter and the new leaves and blooms looking up to sky to praise his glory and give thanks.

Alabama

In the early 1800's there were few white settlers in the area. Their homes built of logs. They were Indian traders, white traders and there were farmers. Alabama was rich soil, much of it river bottom land, beautiful rolling planes with long leaf pine virgin forests, chestnut, oak and hickory trees. Alabama was considered a very healthy area with pure water springs flowing from many springs into many clear creeks.
Robinson Springs,Millbrook,as many as six springs filled the pond behind the Episcopal church and fed a creek which filled other ponds.
Some of the early settlers names found in the area in 1818 were Bolling Hall,William Wyatt Bibb, J.S.Walker, Col. Howell, Gen. A. Elmore, Phillip Fitzpatrick, Col. W.R.Pickett, James Jackson and Seaborn Mims.
The territorial legislature created Autauga County in 1817 which included all of this area until 1866 when Elmore County was formed.
A young Senator from Georgia, William Wyatt Bibb was appointed as Governor of the territory and in in 1818 he was elected the first Governor of the new State of Alabama.
In 1818 a great migration of settlers arrived from Virginia,Carolina and Georgia. They traveled along the road opened by Gen. Jackson during the war with the Indians, Creek Indians. Most settlers bought their land sight unseen from the Government and came to claim it. They came by wagon, train. They traveled together and brought all their possession from kitchen utensils to live stock and household belongings.
Among these pioneers were Willian Wyatt Bibb and friend Bolling Hall.
Bolling Hall brought with him door, hinges and mantles from Virginia and England. He also brought locks and sawmill which enabled him to build permanent homes.
He built a home from his family on what is now Edgewood Road. It was a very simple, one and one half story home with large verandas and porches.. This house had the first glass windows in this area. It is still standing and still in the Hall family.
He found a good spot and built the Ellersly. His slaves built four rooms downstairs and two rooms upstairs. All floors in the house are of hardwood pine and are put together by pins and hand made nails with morticed joints.
Approximately 50 feet away the slaves built a two room kitchen. Kitchens were built away from the homes for fear of fires.
Bibb, which became the first Governor of Alabama stopped in Coosada which, like Millbrook established it's own township.
The manor seen on tinahasit.com was built in 1885 about the same time the Methodist Church was built.

millbrook growth

Millbrook has a 50% growth over the 2000 decennial census. Millbrook grew the most of all cities in Alabama. The Millbrook area appeals to families because of his convenient location, vicinity to Air Force Bases, medical centers, hospitals, schools, banks and churches of all denominations.
Millbrook still offer a small town atmosphere but you can get to the big cities quickly and easily. Millbrook still has lots of wooded areas and trees galore to keep the air clean. It is a pleasure to wake in the morning to hear birds singing and watching rabbits hop and squirrel jump from tree to tree.
Millbrook is a nice town still close to nature at it's best.

Easter

Millbrook is already showing signs of the Easter spirit. Mothers go around stores with children sitting in the shopping carts looking at Easter egg coloring. It is a lot of fun to boil eggs, then color them and hide in the bushes in the yard. It is even more fun to watch the little ones looking for them as if there were treasure hunting. Usually the one who finds the golden egg gets a big prize, a big stuffed Eastern Bunny. After the shindig is over the smell of hot dogs and hamburgers cooked on the grill for the little ones invades the air.
There is singing and crying, hair pulling and egg stealing, pushing and shoving, laughing and telling on each other. The Millbrook park is a nice place to have shindigs. It is always kept clean and has a nice walkway all the way around. The ideal place for overweight people to jog counting their laps and mileage

gorgeous day

It is such a beautiful day. How can anyone be sad. A little green lizard welcomed me outside this morning early. It turned his little head at me and sat there as if it dared me to touch it. All plants are blooming again, even though the temperature has dropped a bit. The only fastidious things are the ants. they seem to crawl everywhere. The ant hills are filling with life at the warmth of the sun rays. I tried everything to kill them but when they smell the poisons they just seem to migrate from one spot into another.
I called the golf course to find out how they keep them away from their turfs but that seems to be a secret they do not want to reveal. I like any comments I can get on this subject and I am sure lots more people like me would like to know.

nature is art

Nothing can express joy as much as a sun shiny day. Nothing can express sadness as much as a cold, rainy day. Day light and sunshine strengthen the mind. Darkness and dampness weakens the mind. Nice harp, violins and other cord instruments sounds sooth the mind and inspire love.
These are feelings stimulated during hard times, feelings that bring people together, teach patience, invite relaxation and pleasurable joy. Realistic paintings and good reading stimulate happy feelings.
Like dark damp days hard music drum beatings repetition sounding noise numbs the brain and leads to follow instead of leading. Paintings left to the imagination representing just blotches of colors divide people and create groups of different views and aggressiveness.
Positive thinking, personality, love, help for one another, compassion are stimulated by softness and brightness.Love poems and odes grow during depression times.
Good times bring in harsher music, more chaotic color mixture, a sense of worthlessness and egotistical behavior based on materialism instead of love.

art

Art is a form of expression. Nature is art. No artist could ever reproduce nature at it's best. We are artists in nature even though most people do not know how to express their inner feelings through a brush or a pen, we all see things differently and get different meanings from what we see.
Art has had many uses in the past, told many stories and touched many lives. Through art men has the power of changing society exchanging secret coded messages understood only by few.
Music is art. It can elevate your spirits or lower your mood. Nice, soft violins, harps, and other cord instrument including pianos have the power of relaxing and establish a feeling of peace within oneself.
drums beat have the power to put the brain in idle and create confusion of the senses. Repeated tum tum beating were used during human sacrifices to numb the brain of the spectator so they would not realize the horror of the rites. Harps cords relate to the heavens and the angels because of their sweert, melodic sound.
Brass instruments have the power of energizing and spur people to march.
Like music, painting and writing are used to achieve different feelings and awaken different reaction.
During depression times music is soft, painting are realistic depicting life with smiles and tears, joy and sorrow.
During flourising time music is hard, paintings became confusion of colors and figures. Just like people's character, during depression patience is a must and people help each other and care for each other. During flourishing times people become impatient, materialistic and

Millbrook

"The Hartley's House in Millbrook, Elmore County, Alabama, USA"
by Mario Malaguti in Millbrook (AL) from April 11 to May 8, 2007 with thanks to friends Tina and Frank Hartley.

Yard men

Yard men start to get busy for the spring, mulching, fertilizing and killing bugs. Their heavy work season has come again.
We have beautiful landscaped places in Millbrook, some of which are manicured to perfection. Now is the time to help mother nature protect all plant roots with heavy mulching.
It is time to plant and transplant. Great time to seed a garden for fresh home grown vegetables.
People are outside, they sit on their rocking chair in the front porch and admire their lawns coming to life.

Millbrook

The old manor showed on tinahasit.com was built in 1885 with sun dried heart of pine 4X8's.
It was in Robinson Springs, which is now incorporated in the city of Millbrook.
Robinson Springs in the past was a resort where people would go to drink the pure water from the springs, rich of minerals and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the park.
What is now the back of the manor used to be the front and it was all bricked in. Everything was rural. Water came to the well from the natural springs.
Tina reopened the well and uses the natural spring water to grow fantastic flowers and vegetables, as well as drinking it for good health
The well was discovered by accident. A tree fell and broke the concrete top that covered it. Tina looked into it and saw her image reflected way on the bottom.
The well had to be built during the Confederate War, when the property was used as a military encampment.

Senior Wisdom

Have you ever looked at your hands, grandma' said. Think about your hands, how they served you.
My old hands wrinkled, shriveled and weak were the tools I used the most to reach out, grab and embrace life.
They braced me and caught my falls. They put food in my mouth and clothes on my back. They fold in thankful prayer. They tied my shoes. They held my husband and wiped my tears when he went off to war.
They were dirty, scraped and raw, swollen and bent.
They were uneasy and clumsy when I held my new born baby.
Decorated with my wedding band they showed the world that I married and loved someone special. They wrote letters. They trembled and shook when I buried my parents. They held children and grandchildren, consoled neighbors.
They shook in fists of anger when I did not understand.
They covered my face, combed my hair, cleaned the rest of my body.
They set flowers to grow, fed birds, cleaned house, cooked.
They hugged and caressed.
When not much more of the rest of my body works, my hands still hold me up, lay me down and fold in prayer.
My hands hold the story of my life in them.

one eye

I have one eye left and the other is half blind. I can still see to motivate and help myself and I am proud the Lord gifted me with two eyes.
I am 68 now and have seen beautiful things as well as ugly things. My mind has erased the ugliness and I can still see all the beauty I encountered in my life.
I can still see life at it's best. The sun shine, the smiles of the moon, the stars, the colored flowers, the rainbows.
I can still see all the things that give me joy and life.
I keep my memories fresh and happy. I find myself smiling happy remembering past events and people.
I am proud to have built a castle of good happy memories for they are my strength and my joy of life today.

nature's wedding

March first. In Millbrook Alabama nature decided to wear it's white snow veil to wed the spring left behind.
Flowers were blooming, purple irises were shining in the warm sun. flowering pear less trees were white with flowering buds. Azalea heads were opening their different colors to welcome the spring time.
We had reached up to 75F. Mother nature decided to wear it's white veil and dropped our temperature to 32F.
It is beautiful to watch the snow come down and the flakes dance in the air. The plants do not like it. they call it a mis reckon of season.
Birds had come in for the season and began to build their nests. The snow silenced their chirping and they are not to be seen.
Hope mother nature knows best because human minds cannot understand these sudden changes.

purity

Today March first, Alabama air decided to purify itself with a beautiful snow fall.
It is a seasonal misreckon. The blooming flowers opening for the springs peep their bright color heads through the white snow as to say "We were here first".
Azaleas, daffodeles, pearless flowering trees, red gardenias, irisis, all seem to be upset and fight for their position in the season.
It is a refreshing, clean, beautiful sight for the lookers but a mean season for the growers. Fruits and vegetables will feel the change and die instead of growing. Food prices already high will be raised again due to the lost crops.
Let's just hope and pray that mother nature knows best.
Could be the snow will purify the air to keep us in better health. Unite us more at home by keeping us in our nests longer to enjoy each other and work closer together.
To watch the snow fall gives a very relaxed feeling, like watching fish moving slowly into a big acquarium.
Men cannot fool mother nature because at the end mother nature takes control of all and decides our destinies.
